310 Rogers Point Road – Walter Church c.1900

310 Rogers Point Road Steuben

Walter E. Church (1856-1936, a shipwright originally from Jonesboro) purchased 30 acres from Josiah Strout on Sept. 4, 1894 (270:154). According to the property deed, the land included “buildings.” The current structure on the property is a small cabin, likely built in the late 1800s. As of the 1900 census, Walter was living on the property with his wife and seven children, which is hard to imagine given the size of the house. By the 1910 census, he moved his family to Washington state and sold the property to Bartlett Brown in March 1915.
