Guilford Parker Stevens (1829-1896) married Mary Shaw Leighton, daughter of Capt. Henry Dyer Leighton, in January 1853. He purchased the land for the home from Handy Leighton in December 1854 (95:533). They had three children, two in Steuben and one in Milbridge, where they lived by 1870. Guilford Stevens sold the property to Charles H. Handy in 1863 (112:190).

The home has a large back ell constructed similarly to the main house, connector, and original barn.
