108 Village Road – Henry Stevens c.1845
Henry Stevens (1812-1873), son of Jonathan Stevens Jr., and grandson of Jonathan Stevens Sr., was one of the original Steuben settlers. He married Abigail C. Nash in Gouldsboro in 1839. They had two daughters, Mariana and Ada. He purchased six acres where I believe the house currently sits from Joseph Hutchings on June 16, 1845 (56:56) and another 20 acres from Paddock Bates (of Massachusetts) in June 1844 (56:54) (within or bounded by sections of original lots 21, 22, and 23). He purchased additional land during that period as well. The 1850 census lists his occupation as a farmer; by 1860, he was a merchant.
